To make your ego happy, have you noticed how rapidly the rest of the world learns English through school and TV? English words are added so fast to most of the other languages in the world, some governments have had to take drastic measures on the media to defend their languages (Toubon law in France).

Spanish is possibly one of the languages more influenced by English due to them sharing same origins and to geo and economic situations. It changes so fast in a few decades there might not be any more Spanish language left for people like you to complain.

Yea, it’s called it. You won’t learn Italian, instead you’ll pick up the Kitalian language, haha.

If you can’t do good in Spanish and want to take the easiest course, stick with Spanish.

Japanese is 100X harder!

I know English, French, Spanish and a bit of Mandarin, but Japanese is the toughest language I’ve undertook so far.

Actually, the best way to learn a language is total body response. Act out motions for a word and speak it at the same time. It helps a lot, that is how I learned Spanish. Also, listen to spanish music, hearing the words help you remember them better. Immersion is a good way as well, if you are able to.

No, that’s really stupid.
There are more than Mexicans coming the the united states. If that was the case then it would be mandatory for us to learn Laos, Chinese, Japanese, French, for the other people coming from differnet parts of the world. I wouldn’t take Spanish, just cause. At my school it’s mandatory to take a foreign language and we only have two, which would be French and Spanish and I’m going to take French.

Of course it’s good to know more than one language, but it shouldn’t be forced even if it is a largely spoken language.
Like you said, they are coming here, where English is the dominate language, and of course Spanish would be 2nd but we shouldn’t be forced to learn it. They should come and be ready to learn English so they could communicate with us.

Hey, ****** american guy: you don’t have to learn anything you don’t want to. Why does it bother you? Do you just not like people speaking to each other in your presence if you can’t understand their conversation?
I’m going to guess that you aren’t from a very big city.
It’s common to walk down the sidewalk in NYC and hear 20 different languages being spoken. I bet all of that ethnic diversity would absolutely drive you crazy!

The best thing you could do is start on your own so that you’re somehow more familiar with Spanish grammar and some vocabulary. If I were you, I’d check out these websites and see which one you find more friendly. Then start working.
On the other hand, you heard not very nice things about this teacher. You shouldn’t be afraid but responsible and do what your teacher asks you to do. There are different kinds of intelligence which means that someone may be bright in Maths but not so good at languages, or this person may excell at Art but still be weak at Music. Those really smart people who only got B’s or C’s may not be that smart in the area of Languages. So give yourself the chance to start a new subject with an open mind and expect to do your best. That’s what really counts in the long run.
